How it all works.

Plain words, no promises. Where a number has not been fixed yet, this page says so.

What it is

Crab Market is a collection of 2,222 pixel hermit crabs on Robinhood Chain, and a token, $CRAB.

People trade the token. A share of the trading fees fills a pot. Once an hour the pot buys USDG (digital dollars) and drops them into each awake crab's own wallet. That is the whole machine.

It is run by a small anonymous team. You should judge it by the code and the addresses, which will all be public, not by who we say we are.

The mint

  • Price: 0.0022 ETH, plus the network fee.
  • Supply: 2,222, including 10 one-of-a-kind legends.
  • The list mints first. Get on it here.
  • The date is not set yet. It will be announced here and on our X account.

You do not know which crab you have until the mint ends. At that moment a public randomness beacon, which the team does not control, will shuffle the whole collection in one go. Nobody can pick a legend, and nobody can re-roll.

The token

$CRAB is for using. It does three jobs:

  • You burn it to wake a crab.
  • You burn more of it for each shell level.
  • Every trade of it pays a small fee, and a fixed share of that fee fills the hourly pot.

Holding $CRAB pays nothing. Only awake crabs get paid.

It will launch on Pons, on Robinhood Chain, after the mint. It does not exist today, so anything sold under that name now is fake.

Waking and levels

A new crab is asleep beside its empty shell, and a sleeping crab earns nothing. To wake it you burn $CRAB. Burned tokens are destroyed for good.

After that there are 5 shell levels. Each level costs a bigger burn and gives the crab a bigger share of every hourly pot. The level shows on the NFT picture (five pips, gold frame at the top) and grows the crab's island.

LevelBurnShare weight

If you sell or transfer a crab it goes back to sleep, and the new owner has to wake it again. Whether the shell level survives a sale is not decided yet, and this page will say so before launch. The $CRAB you burned never comes back, whether you keep the crab or sell it. What the crab already earned stays inside its wallet.

The level will also show on marketplaces. The contract draws the picture and writes the traits itself, so an OpenSea listing will show the pips on the image and a "Shell level" trait you can filter by, and it will refresh by itself when a crab levels up.

The hourly tide

StepWhat happens
1A share of every $CRAB trade is kept as a fee.
2The fee is split between the hourly pot and the team. The split is fixed in the contract and anyone can read it.
3Once an hour, the pot buys USDG (digital dollars) on the open market.
4The pot is split by shell level. Each level has a share weight, and each awake crab's share drops into its own wallet.

Anyone will be able to press the button that runs the hourly round, so it does not depend on the team being online. We will also run a bot that does it. "Hourly" is the target: if the bot is late, the round runs late and the pot simply carries over.

The crab's wallet

Every crab will have a small wallet of its own, attached to the NFT. Pay lands there. You can take it out to your own wallet whenever you want.

If you sell the crab, whatever is still inside goes with it. Empty it first if you want to keep it.

Islands

Each crab has an island that is built from the crab's own number, so no two are alike and yours never changes shape on you. A sleeping crab's island is grey. Waking it brings the colour back, and each level adds land and builds something: a sandcastle, an umbrella, a palm and a hut, a dock with a boat, and at the top a lighthouse and a sand palace. If you own several crabs, your page shows all their islands in one sea.

The art

Every crab is 32 by 32 pixels, drawn from layers: 33 shells, body colours, eyes, mouths, claws, markings, accessories and backdrops. The picture will be drawn by the contract itself with nothing stored on a server, which is also why the NFT can show its level live.

The generator throws away any crab that looks too much like one that already exists, so there are no near-twins in the collection.

What the team earns

  • The part of the trading fee that does not go to the hourly pot. The exact split will be published here before launch.
  • The mint: 2,222 crabs at 0.0022 ETH.
  • Whether resales carry a royalty is not decided yet. It will be stated here before the mint.

That is all of it. Pons also keeps its own protocol cut of every trade, which never reaches us or the pot.

The list

The list mints before the public. You get on it by posting your card on X. It is free, and we never ask you to connect a wallet. Make your card.

Risks, said plainly

  • Pay can be zero. It comes only from trading fees. Quiet market, small pot. No trading, no pay.
  • The token can fall. Waking and levelling burn tokens you cannot get back.
  • More awake crabs, smaller slices. The pot is shared. Every crab that wakes or levels up makes every other share a little smaller.
  • USDG is someone else's dollar. It is a stablecoin run by a company, not by us. It is built to hold one dollar, but no stablecoin is free of risk. Swaps cost something, so the pot always buys slightly less than it holds.
  • Smart contracts can have bugs. The code will be public and verified. That lowers the risk, it does not remove it.
  • The launchpad has owner powers. The token launches on Pons, whose owner can redirect a creator's fee address after a three-day public delay. If that ever happened, the pot would stop filling. We will say so on this page the moment it is announced.
  • This is a collectible, not an investment product, and nothing here is financial advice.

Contracts

Nothing is deployed yet. When it is, every address will be listed here, verified on the explorer, and nowhere else first. Until then, any contract using our name is fake.
